“Like Dew in the Sun,” an exhibition of Brendan Hoffman’s recent work in Ukraine—created as part of his Fulbright grant and with the assistance of the Philip Jones Griffiths Award—will open May 7 at the Institute for International Education in Kyiv. A reception will be held from 6-8pm.
Ukraine is at an inflection point, teetering between its ancient traditions, Soviet legacy, and contemporary global trajectory. A war rages, and its political consequences rival its physical ones. A walk in the forest, the sound of a bell, the pain of an old war injury, boredom: the sensations the same, but with new significance. Through thousands of individual choices and actions, society changes – or fails to change.
